The Wickford Wildlife Society
The Wickford Wildlife Society was formed in 1984 and offers local people the chance to see indoor wildlife presentations on a wide variety of topics and visit some of the excellent nature reserves for which Essex is famous.
During the autumn and winter months, indoor meetings are held locally in the St Andrews Church Hall, 11 London Road, Wickford, Essex. SS12 0AN, on the second Wednesday of every month. These usually consist of a slideshow presentation by a wildlife expert or enthusiast, on a variety of topics, from plants to insects, geology to ornithology, and covering Essex and many "wild" places throughout the world. The indoor meetings start at 8.00pm and end at around 10.00pm. Car parking is available in the Church car park, and refreshments are available. There is a small charge for each meeting of £3.00 for non-members and £2.00 for members.
In addition to the presentations, we hold an annual social event in December, where the AGM takes place, followed by a Quiz and a chance for members to show their own photographs and slides.
For many members the highlights of the schedule are the outdoor meetings which mainly take place during the spring and summer months,
although we normally have a winter bird watching trip to ensure we don't get too comfortable! Outdoor trips are normally on Sunday mornings and we meet in the Wickford Council Central Car park (next to the Co-op) For most outdoor meetings we aim to be back in Wickford for around 1.00pm - unless specifically mentioned in the Programme. For many members the highlights of the schedule are the outdoor meetings which mainly take place during the spring and summer months,
